2:05p - What I bought myself for my birthday
It's raining graphic novels at Casa de Platt...
An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons, and True Stories , edited by Ivan Brunetti, filled with great comics by R. Crumb, Seth, Chris Ware, and about a bazillion others. Amazon has it on sale for 70% off. At that price, you should buy it. Now.
Hank Ketcham's Complete Dennis the Menace 1955-1956 , the third volume in Fantagraphics' most-excellent reprint series of this most-excellent strip. Hank Ketcham could sling some ink, and the gags just slay me. When does volume 4 come out???
Three Fingers by Rick Koslowski. I don't know why I waited so long to buy this graphic novel, but the wait was worth it. This is just about the darkest book I've read in a long time. It's kind of a "Roger Rabbit"-like story about humans and toons co-existing in Hollywood, but the twist Koslowski gives it is so unexpected and brilliant that I can't even hint at giving it away. Great stuff.
My most-excellent brother also bought me Jack Kirby's Kamandi Archives, Vol. 2 , which I am dying to dive into right now, but I forgot that I don't own volume 1 yet, so it's going to have to wait. Damn.
